History
Kayla’s Village was birthed in July 2007 as a project of South Washington/West of the River Family Strengthening Collaborative (SWWR). In January 1997, SWWR was established to address the problem of child abuse and neglect in the Southeast & Southwest area of the District of Columbia. SWWR was conceived to strengthen families so that children need not enter foster care. However, the challenges of some families are increasing and there are times when children do need to be removed.
Kayla’s Village seeks to maintain families and workers caring for others’ children by building the capacity of and providing support to parents and social service professionals for the challenging work they perform.
