Opened in January 2000 to address the needs of weary caregivers and persons with Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological conditions.

New Horizons first operated one day per week at Ankeny First United Methodist Church and then relocated to the Neveln Community Resource Center in 2004.

New Horizons-Daybreak now operates five days a week and has expanded the program to include care for younger adults with acute health problems due to brain trauma or other health conditions.

In September 2007, Paul’s Place opened to serve young adults who are living with problems related to brain injury due to trauma, neurological diseases, health problems that spread to the brain or stroke. Paul’s Place, named in memory of Paul Elwell, offers mental stimulation, socialization, retraining of independent living skills, and fellowship with others that understand the frustrations of living with a brain injury.

New Horizons Adult Day Center provides health care monitoring, supervision, therapeutic recreation, transportation, and social services to adults who have cognitive and or physical challenges related to traumatic brain injury, stroke and other neurological conditions or progressive diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.
