Northwest Education Access provides comprehensive and individualized support to help low-income young people, ages 16-29, build their own path to higher education and beyond. We offer the only higher education access program in Washington – and one of few in the United States – that specializes in re-engaging youth who left or were pushed out of high school prior to completion.
Our Postsecondary Prep Program helps students earn a high school equivalency, chart a career and academic path, apply for funding and admission, and enroll in classes. Our Postsecondary Success Program continues to support students enrolled in postsecondary programs with academic advising, subject specific tutoring, professional mentorship, and gap scholarships for school expenses and basic needs.
The majority of students who begin a post-secondary program with our support have earned a degree or are still studying in good academic standing. In addition, reengaged youth were three times more likely to enroll in post-secondary programs. And reengaged young men of color were more than seven times more likely (at 66%) to enroll in post-secondary programs in comparison to a similar site.
We prioritize building supportive, trusting relationships with students and believe that they are the expert in their own lives. Our priority is loyalty to the student and not to any specific college, school or organization. Our youth are powerful and are persisting through multiple systemic barriers to be change-makers in their own lives and communities.
